Appreciating the ordinary

One thing that I have found extremely important in maintaining creativity and peace, along with the balancing of everyday life, is to just stop. Just take a moment to breathe, or take a picture of something that you find even slightly interesting. Stop and reflect on your thoughts and feelings. Appreciate all the little things, as often as you can.

As often as I can, and when there is a setting or rising sun, I take a picture. I do this because I saw the sun set. I mean, I just watched a massive star that is several light years away, cross the sky, and set, with my own eyes. I look back later through my photos and am just filled with this sense of acceptance. I start to think of how much I love and how much I appreciate what this human life has to offer. Or sometimes I think, "wow, that is a beautiful shade of yellow, can I recreate it?".

It isn't even just the sun that so fully fascinates me either. A couple years ago while in California, I took a picture of some trees, not really looking at until later. When I eventually did look at it I discovered that the tops of trees look like galaxies. The way that the leaves bunch together and make billowy, bumpy form, is almost like the clouds of dust and rocks that form the many galaxies of the world.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, taking time to just...be... is so so important. It can help clear your mind, instigate new ideas, and bring about new ways of thinking.
