Me and Vulnerability

Today, I would like to be a little emotional, a little raw in who I am. I would like to share a piece of myself with you all, as represented by a piece I did for school. I created this painting in 2020 for a graphic design class. I was asked to create a personal piece, a piece that was specific to us, an "about me" piece. Most of my pieces are very specific an emotional, pieces that are rife with symbolism and expression. But I had never had to share my pieces in such a intimate way. I had never had to tell people why I did why I did. And it was scary. However, despite this, I want people to know me, to understand who I am. To get a little sense of what I stand for. So, here is a brief explanation. Here is part of me.

This piece is about my heart, and how I think and feel. The anatomical heart in the center is representative of being human, and how I base my choices more on feeling and intentions, rather than pure logic. The birds flying across the center of the poster, were purposely centralized and placed in a slight ascending degree. Doves represent Christ, Christianity, peace, hope, purity. The light from above is the light of family and faith, shining on my heart. The dark light below is mental illness, trials, and mistakes. Darkness is coming from below, and light from the top, because light will always overcome darkness, no matter the intensity. There are also faint light streaks, where I left lighter areas of paint, to accentuate the power of light.

This is just a brief description, I could go on and on about each individual piece on it's own. Regardless, these things are important to me. They are significant and special and full of love. This piece isn't something that just represents me, but is me.
