Processes? What Processes?

Over the past couple of months I have been taking a graphic design class that has all but forced me to take my ideas, and hash them out in a very specific process, so as to bring about the best possible outcome for the project.

Now, I usually have some sort of process before I actually begin a project. But it's typically like a sticky note, or just a single random sketch page, and then I just....go for it. It usually ends up alright, though probably because I have a very specific idea in mind, and if it isn't that, I don't really try a very different avenue of exploration. However, for this class, I have discovered how important and essential it is to creating ideas, and finding different paths of exploration for a single assignment.

For example, one of our assignments was to create and album or book cover from an already existing piece. I decided to do an album cover, for the album "Go Farther in Lightness" by Gang of Youths. Because the design were almost entirely based on our interpretation, I had so many ideas, and because we had weekly check-in's, with specific requirements, I had to submit said ideas. I ended up making up so many designs for this one album, I submitted two more ideas than required, and still didn't even submit all my ideas. All of the possible routes I created ended up with me having ideas for other projects, other assignments, other ideas. It was essentially like opening up a can of worms.

Because of these processes that were required of us for the class, I had good compositions, more ideas, and a better process of execution. The experimentation and research for the project probably ended up being longer than actually making the final project, and there is still stuff that can be improved upon.
